On 31st August 2011, Panasonic Corporation, the Official Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Audio and Visual Equipment category, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) announced their partnership agreement to make the London 2012 Olympic Games the first ever live 3D Olympic Games. The partnership will produce the first HD 3D live broadcast in Olympic history, and will allow audiences around the globe to witness the world’s greatest sporting event in immersive 3D.
The 3D broadcast will include major events such as the Opening and Closing Ceremonies, athletics, gymnastics, diving and swimming, and will be produced and delivered to participating rights-holding broadcasters around the world. OBS will be in charge of producing more than 200 hours of 3D coverage during the London 2012 Olympic Games by utilizing Panasonic’s state-of-art 3D production technologies including the AG-3DP1, a P2HD professional fully-integrated twin-lens Full HD 3D camera recorder.
The London Prepares series is the official London 2012 sports testing programme. As well as allowing the London 2012 Organising Committee to test crucial aspects of its operations up to one year ahead of the Games, the series will feature world-class sporting events – bringing top athletes to London’s iconic existing venues and brand new venues in the Olympic Park.
Panasonic has provided audio equipment and large display screens such as a magnificent 52 sqm LED screen for the Hockey and 103" plasma for the Wrestling event. Broadcast cameras have also been supplied for use in the series in preparation for the real thing in July-August 2012.
We are proud to announce a new partnership with heptathlete Louise Hazel ahead of the London 2012 Olympic Games. The partnership, which runs from May 2011 to March 2013 will see Louise take part in various activities and will also see Panasonic supplying a range of equipment to Louise, which will be used for coaching and technical analysis.
The 25-year-old heptathlete from Cambridgeshire now based in Birmingham is relishing the opportunity of competing in a home Olympic Games having already achieved the qualifying mark set for London 2012 last year. Louise has an excellent proven track record after becoming the Commonwealth Games Heptathlon Champion in Delhi last year with four personal best performances in the 100m hurdles, 200m, long jump and javelin.
Panasonic UK is not only providing kit for the Olympic Park, but is also helping Britain’s athletes who are currently training for the London 2012 Olympic Games. By providing Skandia Team GBR, British Sailing Team with state-of-the-art high definition cameras and camcorders, Panasonic is increasing the teams’ chance of bringing home the gold medals.
Simon Briscoe, the Performance Analyst for Skandia Team GBR, and Peter Bentley, the team’s Technical Projects Manager, talk about how Panasonic’s kit improves the performance of the sailors. HD video footage taken on one of Panasonic’s award-winning HDC-SD900 camcorders enables Simon and the expert coaching team to give detailed feedback to the sailors, as Simon explains: “Historically, sailing has been a qualitative sport and feedback has been based upon professional opinion but with Panasonic’s impressive equipment we can now apply technology to give scientific feedback which significantly improves performance.”

Run in partnership with Panasonic and the UK Film Council, it will introduce young people to film, support them in developing social and film making skills, and provide opportunities to discover new and non-mainstream film.
